Flexible, sure, but can you do this?

I might be willing to pay to see something like this live.

I am gobsmacked.

I will never be the same after that post Stef. You just took it all to a whole new level.

Diane, that brings up a thought I had earlier. We need to have annual prizes at this board for things like:

strangest post

most insightful post

biggest windbag

etc...

no, i didn't get scared off...

i only have internet connection while i'm at work, so i didn't check it until just now...

media internship -- i guess i'm just looking for a place where i can learn video production and photography w/ people who actually know what they are doing! and where i don't need to have a degree... cause that's what i'm doing now, but the one i'm in ends in a month and half, and i'm liking this experience track. i learn so much better this way....

The possibilites are vast & endless, kylie, depending on what you want to end up doing for a career. And in all reality, it's better to get out their in the field and just start doing it than spend time getting a degree for it (this from someone who got the Film degree). If you only care about video production then I'm sure that you won't have trouble finding something in your own city and/or state. I live in Texas, and the Texas Film Commision has a website for cast & crew positions for various shoots around the state. Some paying, most not. Some film, most video nowadays. Maybe Michigan has this too.

If you want to pursue narrative film, Hollwood style, then get thee to California while you are young, don't have any ties holding you back, and can afford to starve for a bit. Regardless, start networking wherever you are and wherever you go. Offer even to work for free in the beginning so that you can learn the ropes.

But always remember: It is not what you know. It's a combination of who you know, and good (lucky) timing. One look at Bett Ratner's student film convinced me of that.

I wouldn't be so quick to diss the film degree - for a lot of people, for the majority in fact, it's a very big confidence booster which is needed in a male-heavy technical competitive industry.
