Death Cab for Cutie-- Plans

Recommended Posts

Every single song on this record has withstood the test of time. My favorite is now 'What Sarah Said." I have cried and prayed to it. Go back and listen again. Of all the nominated projects, this certainly deserved the win. I don't get it.

I guess I have to give this album another go. It's the only DCFC album I don't own, solely because I was extremely bored with it on the first few listens. Maybe I'm such a fan of Something About Airplanes that their gradual shift in sonics upset me or something. Let's blame it on that.

Initially I was very, very pleased with Plans, I thought it was a huge step beyond Transatlanticism, a album I wasn't too pleased with. While I still think Plans is better than its predecessor it doesn't get alot of spins at the Anderson house anymore. When I listen to Death Cab I grab Airplanes and Facts. This isn't to say Plans doesn't have its moments it does - "Marching Bands of Manhatten", "Soul Meets Body", "Crooked Teeth", and "What Sarah Said" are as good as they come, I just don't think it holds up well as a whole. Much like Transatlanticism it gets too bogged down in the middle.
