Is anyone else excited about this show? It's been developed by J.J. Abrams and although it doesn't have a very famous cast, it does have some quality actors in Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost, V). The trailer gives a good synopsis of the general plot. It reminds me a lot of Jericho, which I believe was cancelled prematurely.

Well, this was surprising. Some really poor performances. Plot twists dropped in at all the right moments. Maybe it will get better, but I would rather spend an hour a week replaying Fallout: New Vegas.

Remember that early draft of Lost where they set up Jack to be the hero and then killed him off in the first episode, but the network talked them out of it? Looks like Abrams and co. got their wish this time.

Mostly, this pilot reminded me how good Jericho actually was.

My latest Christ and Pop Culture piece explains why I find it hard to believe in Revolution's vision of the apocalypse.

Quote

Produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe) and Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Revolution is a well-made show with a concept that has potential — and room for lots of mysteries. (J.J. Abrams is involved, after all.) And yet, I found myself constantly taken out of the series’ post-apocalyptic setting. Perhaps it was the too-perfect little towns, which looked almost Rockwell-ish, or the fact that somehow people still managed to get their white shirts perfectly pressed and cleaned, or that characters spoke and dressed in a sort of colloquial western manner akin to something you’d find in a Firefly episode, or that soldiers were shooting honest-to-goodness muzzle-loading rifles. What, are 9MM pistols, shotguns, and semi-automatic rifles in short supply after the blackout?

I thought the idea was that anything with electronic components (E.G. automatic weapons) was knocked out, as well. Doesn't really make sense, but that's how they set up their world.

But not all automatic weapons use electricity, right? Even if that were the case, that'd leave plenty of firearms, like bolt-action and lever-action rifles, shotguns, and whatnot. Any hunters here that want to correct me?

FWIW, I've seen some shots from later episodes that do indicate that machine guns are still around. So maybe they're not given to the rank and file soldiers? Which still strikes me as kind of odd. I mean, a good archer could presumably get off several good shots with their weapon in the time that it would take a soldier to reload their blackpowder rifle, right?

Well, and at the end of the pilot we see that not all electricity is not working. There are mysteries to be explained as the story goes along. It almost lost me in the first 5 minutes because it was much a case of "it's all gone and whe don't know why." The pilot barely got to the point of showing is that that is not the case.

My interpretation was that electricity doesn't work unless you have one of those silvery USB thumbdrive amulet thingies. So that's the primary mystery... so far.

Pretty disappointed in this. I've given up on there ever being another Abrams show as good as Lost. He should stick with movies.

This thread encouraged me to DVR the show. Now it's sitting there on my DVR, but I don't know if I have the heart to sit through the first episodes.

I've liked Revolution so far. It's kept me more engaged than FlashForward, Alcatraz, Undercovers and The Event. No, it's certainly not as good as Lost, but I do think it is a bright spot on television.
