Does Neko Case/New Pornographers sit well here?

And what about Billy Corgan? His stuff with Zwan, his solo stuff and his recent album seem to suggest he is on a pilgrimage.

Having witnessed an interview with Neko a couple years back in which she absolutely refused to be pigeonholed by any label, I'd say you're on your own in terms of pinning "Christian" on her. The New Pornographers? There's nothing in the music that would suggest a Christian worldview, as far as I know (and nothing to suggest otherwise, either; these are fairly obtuse lyrics, no?). I still say they deserve, at the very least, Purgatorial Parole for the ironic use of a Jimmy Swaggart quote in the band name.

I interviewed one of the New Pornographers once, when he made a film called Low Self-Esteem Girl that was all about a woman who gets ensnared in a conservative Christian group. If memory serves, he told me that a few members of the band had Christian backgrounds, but I didn't get the impression any of them would have self-identified as such nowadays.

2. This is why this whole idea doesn't work for me. I don't mean to be ornery, but if we're guessing about people who might somehow eventually be(come) some kind of Christian, I don't know where to start. I don't mean it's not valuable to seek out those artists who are doing things I like and who share my beliefs, as I do feel a desire to do that, but if it's just a list, I can't get into it.

no one is forcing anyone to get into anything. One man's meat etc. What may appear to be just a list now to someone may turn into something completely different. I do not want it to be a guessing game either and people who may become, Ozzy Osourne may become (or may even be, I remember him doing a religious broadcast on British TV pre-Sky talking about his faith in God.), but I was just interested in those who are journeying in the realm of belief in Jesus/God now and whose art is influenced in a big way by this belief. Did not want it to be a big deal.

I've been listening to his newest 'solo' album (Mama Rosa, which is a pretty pleasant if not exciting album), and the lyrics are pretty explicit in this sense. I haven't read too many interviews with the guy, but I know he's brought up Jesus quite a bit. So I'm pretty positive he is. Seems like a super nice dude too!

Good to know. I'd heard some excerpts at Borders, and wasn't sure this one was my cup of tea. But I didn't latch on to any of the lyrics. Just a short listen to each track, enough to get a feel for the songwriting. If the lyrics are more religious in nature than I'd realized, that might elevate some of the songs, which seemed pleasant but not gotta-get-this-now urgent in their quality. Just a first impression.

This is pretty right on; I like the album for what it is, but it's not vital (esp. compared to what else he's done!) Or compared to another certain forthcoming album (but that's for another thread )

AV Club mentions Mustaine's conversion by way of explaining his endorsement of Rick Santorum. Apparently, "recently" now means "up to 3 years ago."
