I put a lot of faith in that rumor. At any rate, it's pretty guaranteed that Ralph Fiennes will be the new M when we reach the end of SKYFALL.

My gosh. Are you afraid of seeing this all go down the road of Casino Royale,
Spoiler

Having gone from knowing nothing but a few casting choices and the title of the film to this, all at your hands, I have to ask. Will you still love me in the morning, Ryan? :P

It's also guaranteed that Bond's ancestral home complete with parent's gravesites[/black] is in the film, and that it [highlight=black]goes up in flames at the end. I've seen the photos and video footage.

That's cool, but not nearly as significant, at least as far as the future of the franchise is concerned. Big news indeed. And very welcomed.

btw - have you become more interested in the future of the franchise with these announcements and the general direction EON has gone? At one point I thought your fanometer was almost on empty.

Oh, yeah. We could be headed for melodrama central. Whatever else it is, SKYFALL is definitely going to be the most M-centric Bond film, with stuff like Bond and M heading off to Scotland together in his DB5, and do stuff like share a drink at a pub and talk about his childhood.

I'll always love you, darling.

It was. QUANTUM OF SOLACE was pretty wretched.

But for whatever reason, I've got a good feeling about SKYFALL, even though I have some serious reservations. At the very least, SKYFALL will likely have a more coherent story than QUANTUM, as well as considerably more of the Bondian escapism and glamor that QUANTUM OF SOLACE lacked.

So maybe QOS 'done right'? It's what I figured they were thinking putting Mendes at the wheel since the beginning. From the few interviews I've read Craig seems genuinely confident in the script they've got. He's been honest about QOS's failures, and was right about CR, so I am optimistic in his optimism at least.

The trailer for SKYFALL was shown at CinemaCon.

And BOND 24 has been confirmed for a 2014 release.

Oh maaan. That tingling sensation again. I'd almost forgotten...

Even without the visuals and audio, I'm groovin' to that dialogue. Big time.

And make it a double-scoop, with confirmation for 2014! I presume that puts Craig in the bag. They wouldn't announce the next release unless their lead was a lock, would they?

Craig has more or less said he's coming back for more after SKYFALL. I'll be interested to see whether EON can get Mendes to return. Since GOLDENEYE, the producers have tried very hard to get a director to follow-up the first film, but it hasn't worked yet. Will Mendes want to devote another year and a half of his life to Bond?

Did they try "very hard" to get Forster to return after QOS?

I could see Mendes as being a one-and-done sort of guy, looking for a new challenge after each film. That said, on the pro-return side of the argument, to do a back-to-back sequel film would be a 'first time' thing for Mendes (as far as I know), so maybe he'd see it that way. Plus, it's clear he and Craig welcome the chance to work with each other. I'm not sure if there's been a similar relationship in the last 6 films. It could be enough.

The reception Skyfall gets may also have some impact on his decision.

Of course, there's always $$$. I expect his payout for Skyfall is going to be a much heavier check than the one he got for Jarhead.

And, lastly, there's just probability. I mean, if EON has been trying really hard to make a sophmore director all this time, you'd think eventually they'll get it done.

They tried. I don't know how hard.

Cinemablend has visited the set and learned ten things. Nothing spoilery or undexpected, but proceed at your own risk anyway.

Thanks for that NBooth.

Gah! I can't help it. I get excited about the new Bond. Although this time I think I have good reason to be a little excited. (Although I always think that.) It's a pickle.

Craig's comment, that this Bond is "different in every way", is as intriguing as it is uninformative.

Looking forward to seeing what Bardem has cooked up.

Well, some people have been very upset with the creators' decision to put the gunbarrel in all sorts of unorthodox places within the last couple films.

I can hear EON now.

"You want it at the beginning??! Well, heeeere you go then.

AT.

THE.

BEGINNING.

Be careful what you ask for, punk."

My. This is looking like a very dark film. Hopefully Mendes allows for a few moments of sunshine.

I'm guessing that's Javier Bardem's silhouette we see just before the title frame? No evidence of the comedy promised. No idea whatsoever of the plot. Quite teasy indeed. I'm lickin' my chops now.

It's going to be a long summer. Bat-who?

Yeah, but he and Craig have been promoting SKYFALL saying that there's lots of comedy, with Craig going as far as to state the film is "funny as hell." Not a lot of that in the trailer.

I love what Roger Deakins has done with that footage, though. SKYFALL looks to be the most stylish Bond film in quite some time.

Yes. Most, if not all of them. And as such, I am well aware of Mendes' tonal MO, and it has always been my #1 concern regarding Skyfall. Even if the har-hars are all there, there's a difference between funny and fun. I don't doubt Mendes can do funny, but I wonder if he can (or at least will) do fun. After it's all said and done, I hope to feel like I've been through a Mendes-directed Bond film, as opposed to a Mendes film about James Bond.

I never had much of a doubt before, but after the trailer I'm sure I agree with Ryan. Skyfall is going to be a pleasure to look at.

From everything I've heard as well, there is supposedly quite a bit of chuckle-worthy material, and also a few elements that really evoke that Flemingesque sense of the fantastical and macabre. <puffs on academic pipe> M'yes, quite.

Like you said, the teaser does exactly what it's supposed to, and I'd say it is meant to misdirect from the full tone of the film-- it obviously highlights the action, as always, and doesn't give us much else other than ominous music and one deathly pale look from Craig at the word "Skyfall" to suggest it's a super dark movie. It's a great buzz generator, and I love that it is a wild contrast to the CR/QOS teasers that I went back and watched for reference. Both those teasers seem so quaint by SF's standards. Trite voiceover from M about Bond's lack of (insert virtue here), his excessive (insert vice here), blaring rock orchestral Bond theme growing into an actual chorus 30 seconds of explosive punches and some narration about the villain and his threat to global yada-yada-yada, title card. They totally worked in their time, but seem now to say "SEE?? THIS IS A BOND MOVIE! LISTEN TO THAT BOND THEME! GET EXCITED, GUYS! YOU REMEMBER HOW AWESOME BOND IS? THIS IS MORE OF THAT AWESOME!! PLUS THE DRAMATIC FLAIR OF DAME JUDI DENCH! BOY IS SHE WRONG ABOUT BOND, AM I RIGHT? BUT YET KINDA RIGHT, TOO, YEAH? PLEASE SEE OUR BOND MOVIE!!"

Skyfall is clearly looking to get some speculative buzz going, from more than the usual fanboy crowd that hang on every detail of those clapboard stills. They'll never get to the viral campaigns that surround those Nolan Bat-movies, but they don't need to. Bond is Bond. But this "Skyfall" movie...what's this about??

A new full trailer that finally gives us a look at Javier Bardem as the villain.

And I can't seem to properly embed the video here. But the trailer looks pretty great, though Bardem's bleached coiffure looks a bit silly to me.
