Yes. Most, if not all of them. And as such, I am well aware of Mendes' tonal MO, and it has always been my #1 concern regarding Skyfall. Even if the har-hars are all there, there's a difference between funny and fun. I don't doubt Mendes can do funny, but I wonder if he can (or at least will) do fun. After it's all said and done, I hope to feel like I've been through a Mendes-directed Bond film, as opposed to a Mendes film about James Bond.
Um, have you seen any Mendes movies? He's not big on the happy.
My. This is looking like a very dark film. Hopefully Mendes allows for a few moments of sunshine.
I never had much of a doubt before, but after the trailer I'm sure I agree with Ryan. Skyfall is going to be a pleasure to look at.
From everything I've heard as well, there is supposedly quite a bit of chuckle-worthy material, and also a few elements that really evoke that Flemingesque sense of the fantastical and macabre. <puffs on academic pipe> M'yes, quite.
Like you said, the teaser does exactly what it's supposed to, and I'd say it is meant to misdirect from the full tone of the film-- it obviously highlights the action, as always, and doesn't give us much else other than ominous music and one deathly pale look from Craig at the word "Skyfall" to suggest it's a super dark movie. It's a great buzz generator, and I love that it is a wild contrast to the CR/QOS teasers that I went back and watched for reference. Both those teasers seem so quaint by SF's standards. Trite voiceover from M about Bond's lack of (insert virtue here), his excessive (insert vice here), blaring rock orchestral Bond theme growing into an actual chorus 30 seconds of explosive punches and some narration about the villain and his threat to global yada-yada-yada, title card. They totally worked in their time, but seem now to say "SEE?? THIS IS A BOND
MOVIE! LISTEN TO THAT BOND
THEME! GET EXCITED, GUYS! YOU REMEMBER HOW AWESOME BOND
IS? THIS IS MORE OF THAT AWESOME!! PLUS THE DRAMATIC FLAIR OF DAME JUDI DENCH! BOY IS SHE WRONG ABOUT BOND
, AM I RIGHT? BUT YET KINDA RIGHT, TOO, YEAH? PLEASE SEE OUR BOND
Skyfall is clearly looking to get some speculative buzz going, from more than the usual fanboy crowd that hang on every detail of those clapboard stills. They'll never get to the viral campaigns that surround those Nolan Bat-movies, but they don't need to. Bond is Bond. But this "Skyfall" movie...what's this
