Watching The Lord of the Rings with the family, partway through The Two Towers. Just watched the burial of Theoden's son Theodred. There's an overhead shot looking down on the body being borne into the tomb, disppearing headfirst under a roof of earth and grass. I was looking for a scene I thought I remembered but isn't there: a reverse shot from the one described above, sort of a corpse's-eye view of the sky being cut off by a roof of earth. If it's not here, what film am I remembering? Or did I just make it up as an extension of the scene above?

There is a corpse's-eye view in Vampyr from inside the coffin, but I can't remember anything about the "sky being cut off by a roof of earth."

I thought of Vampyr, too, but the guy doesn't really get buried, IIRC.

The Vanishing (original version) is a possibility, but I can't remember if there's a shot like that.

It's not Vanishing or Vampyr. Don't let me down, people!

I'm pretty sure that sort of thing happens at the Comedian's funeral in Watchmen. If I remember right, as the camera's looking upwards, the sky gets cut off by a wall of earth/grass as the coffin is lowered into the grave (and as Nite Owl chucks the smiley face pin into the grave).

Edited to add screen capture: guess it might not be quite the same as a "roof of earth"

Don't know if I can help you here, SDG. But first things first: Have you compared the theatrical and extended editions of this film to see if the shot might be present in one film even if it is missing in the other? One of my FAVORITE shots from the theatrical version of The Fellowship of the Ring (in which the camera is underwater and looks up at Isildur's floating corpse) was missing from the extended edition, partly because they re-edited that sequence.
