Roger Ebert weighs in.

Quote

My love of Huckleberry Finn is great. I would sacrifice every video game in existence rather than lose Mark Twain's novel. I've defended Huck Finn for years against the tone-deaf Puritans who have banned it from schools for its use of the N-Word. Anyone offended by the use of that word the way it is used inHuckleberry Finn cannot read and possibly cannot think.

Why didn't I think of this? (Yes, vulgar language warning)

Wow. That misses the point completely.

Apparently, this is not uncommon. (I had hoped it was.) I'm reading J.I. Packer's Building Believers the Old-Fashioned Way, and this and similar changes were cited as a common result of the church's failure to catechize and to come to grips with issues of language.

He's fictional, but you can't have everything.

Haven't watched the video yet, but my first thought is that this is kind of apt, really, since the word "robot" basically means "slave" (or "servant", or "serf", etc.). And "slave" is the word that the editors of this new improved Huck Finn plan to use, yes?
