At long last: here they are, the results of the Top100 Poll for 2011 (for A&F consumption only, at this time). Quite a few changes, considering we stuck to the "3 films per director" rule and imposed the 2-year moratorium for recent films. But the Top 10 looks really similar.

If anyone is interested in the full details of changes from last year (including the films that almost made it on), the excel file is attached to this post.

Writers, be ready to volunteer for blurbs for our 34 new films! Greg is taking offers here.

PLEASE let me know as soon as possible if we made a mistake. We went over it a couple times to make sure the directors only appeared 3x, etc, but the staff's legacy film knowledge is not as extensive as yours, so we welcome comments.

As we mentioned last year, please hold off on announcing this to the public until we have changed our webpages to reflect the new list.

I like that there are some classic Hollywood and children's films representin'. It makes the list a little less highfalutin', as Greg says.

The Searchers and Magnolia in the Top 20, yeah, that makes this list more "accessible" anyway.

Magnolia's jump from #58 to #16 is surprising.

Ikiru's jump into the top 10 is not as acrobatic, but still impressive.

That Make Way for Tomorrow basically pole vaulted onto the list and surpassed Tokyo Story by so much is really a puzzler. It's a great film, but wow. How many of us saw it recently and immediately decided it was one of the Best Movies Ever?

2001 and Apocalypse Now! Excellent.

Surprised to see Heartbeat Detector climbing quite a few points, considering how few have actually seen it.

Summer Hours is still much higher than I would expect.

Yi-Yi gains ground.

I'm glad to see Close-up in the top 50. Saw that for the first time recently and was overwhelmed by it.

I think this is a much more intriguing and accessible list than 2010's! Yay!

One correction: the original German title of Silent Light is "Stellet Licht" not "Stella Licht"

I've seen 90 of them already.

Pretty sure the biggest drop was for Early Summer (9 to 95). Can't say I disagree with that. It's not even the best Ozu I've seen.

On first glance, I like it!

Not sure how I feel about Ordet finally getting dethroned, but at least its spot was taken by the OTHER Dreyer.

Very cool to see Tender Mercies and The Apostle right next to each other!

Fascinating...

I share Jeffrey's 'wow' factor about Make Way for Tomorrow, but what an astonishing, beautiful film.

I'm thrilled to see Ran, Spirited Away, and Grave of the Fireflies on the list. And Koyaanisqatsi.

Bummed out that Red Beard and Ugetsu didn't make the cut - maybe next time.

But this is an exciting list.

Agreed.

Very cool to see Tender Mercies and The Apostle right next to each other!

Also agreed, and the same goes for Ran and Rashomon.

I'm intrigued by our new #100 pick! I'm so glad The Miracle Maker made it back, but to have four five animated movies on the Top 100 is quite a feat. ::w00t::

The reason Red Beard didn't is because Kurosawa was already on the list 3 times. We kept the top three vote-getters from each director. Here are the ones that were removed, and their original places:

42 Cries and Whispers (1973)
44 Through a Glass Darkly ("Såsom i en spegel") (1961)
45 Virgin Spring , The (Jungfrukallan)
46 Sacrifice , The (Offret-Sacrificatio)
51 Fanny and Alexander ("Fanny och Alexander") (1982)
68 Lorna's Silence ("Le silence de Lorna") (2008)
84 Red Beard (1965)
99 Rosetta (1999)
100 Derzu Uzala (1975)
103 Solaris ("Solyaris") (1972)
