Li-Young Lee is going to speak at IAM Encounter 11? Wow. Very impressive.

So are Dick Staub, Dana Gioia, and, of course, Makoto Fujimura.

Anybody here going to attend?

Dana Gioia's tenure at the NEA was ridiculously backward-looking and insular. I suppose that might have been what he had to do to overcome congressional opposition, but his elitism and complete indifference to the interests, innovation, and inspiration of young people have left America behind the curve in terms of cultural policy.

Not a bad poet, though.
