in both the united states and canada, april has been designated "national poetry month".
i'll be posting a poem a day at my blog (contemporary canadian, natch) -- how will you be celebrating it?

I've been reading the poetry of Borges, which is new to me.

As part of National Poetry Month, the Academy of American Poets sponsors Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 14.
Probably suitable for Canadians, too

Go and read, posthaste! "Selected Poems" is a good English language collection.
Last year, I attempted to participate in NaPoWriMo, in which one writes a poem a day for the month of April, but that was a bit too strenuous a pace for me. I think I was only able to keep that up for about a week. This year, I'm just going to try to write as much poetry as possible.

Today I stopped by a Borders that's slated to close. I've been by a couple of times before, but now the discounts are serious. The book I had hoped to find wasn't there, but looking at the Poetry section, I saw an Ethan Coen collection I'd never heard of. Second printing on the title. I think it was 60% off. I thought I might get it, but decided not to. Couldn't think of a reason to justify it. If only I'd remembered that it's National Poetry Month!
