He's fictional, but you can't have everything.

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees:

  • THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN
  • CARS 2
  • KUNG FU PANDA 2
  • PUSS IN BOOTS
  • RANGO
No Rio? Cars 2 gets a nomination, but not Rio? Seriously?

And the winner is... The Adventures of Tintin.

Vote!

And, wow, Disney-Pixar was shut out entirely -- as was The Adventures of Tintin, which just won the Producers Guild award in this category.

Hey, look, Chico & Rita is playing in Vancouver next month -- on February 10 and 11, to be precise. (And there's a press screening even before THAT!)

The Annie Awards have announced their nominees . . .

And the winners are:

4 awards:

  • Rango – Best Animated Feature, Character Design, Writing, Editing
2 awards:

  • The Adventures of Tintin – Animated Effects, Music
  • Kung Fu Panda 2 – Directing, Production Design
1 award:

  • Arthur Christmas – Voice Acting (Bill Nighy)
  • Rio – Character Animation
  • Winnie the Pooh – Storyboarding
Note: Puss in Boots was nominated in the most categories (9) and went home with nothing, while Kung Fu Panda 2 had the most nominations (12 in 8 categories) and won only 2. Rango had 9 nominations in 7 categories and won 4, including the top prize.

FWIW, as noted earlier, ever since the Oscars created the Best Animated Feature category in 2001, the film that wins Best Animated Feature at the Annies usually wins it at the Oscars, too -- though there have been three exceptions: in 2006, the Annie went to Cars and the Oscar went to Happy Feet; in 2008, the Annie went to Kung Fu Panda and the Oscar went to WALL-E; and in 2010, the Annie went to How to Train Your Dragon and the Oscar went to Toy Story 3.

For what it's worth, the American Cinema Editors have weighed in with the nominees for THEIR awards:

And the winner is... Rango!
