No kidding. I've now seen 38 films that qualify as 2011 releases, with about a dozen more queued up to watch before the end of the year. Just this weekend I saw two more with top 10 potential. Right now, I have four or five shoo-ins; the rest will be a tricky process of elimination.

Good grief, these lists just show me that I have dozens of films to see before I feel ready to publish a list. But I do agree, it's been a great year.

Well, it counts by my new listing system ("What IMDB says goes"), so I hope I get to see it soon. Of Gods and Men and Certified Copy have been retroactively installed in my 2010 list. Just saw The Arbor, easily one of my favorite discoveries of 2011, but since it played at the Tribeca Film Festival in April of 2010, not to mention the Czech Republic in July 2010, and in the month of October 2010 it played in Germany, France, Belgium, and the UK... and then Italy in November 2010... I'm putting it on my list of 2010 movies.

By the way, what the hell is a "Pruitt-Igoe Myth"? You're not allowed to top-10 a film I haven't even heard of.

M, have you seen Monte Hellman's Road to Nowhere yet? If not, it might throw another wrinkle in your list-making plans.

I saw HUGO over the weekend, but was disappointed.

Didn't care much for MEEK'S CUTOFF, WIN WIN, or several of the other 2011 films mentioned here (I'm thinking of this year's releases only), but I'm pretty picky.

I am not a documentary watcher, but Pruitt-Igoe was stunning.

I wonder if Pruitt-Igoe met the qualifications for Oscar consideration since it's not on the short list and some that I've seen that made that list are not near as good.

You make it sound like this thread is about some sort of official list that will get published somewhere. It isn't. It's a thread in which each person can make whatever list they want according to whatever criteria they want. <nitpick> "Festival release" is an oxymoron. Festival screenings are stand-alone events and generally not part of any sort of "release". </nitpick>

FWIW, Darrel, I've only seen three of those films, and none of those three are in my top ten. And I'll be lucky if I see more than two of the other seven before I publish my list. There just isn't time.

But then again, none of my lists are ever "finalized." They're all in a constant state of revision.
