From PETA's website:

When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy—even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers.

The tanooki (raccoon dog) suit first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3, which was released 23 years ago. If Mario found a special feather, he would transform into Tanooki Mario, which allowed him to turn into an invincible statue and to fly, so he didn't actually skin animals and wear their pelts.

There's a game on the site where you play as a skinned raccoon dog chasing after Mario, who wears a tanooki pelt that occasionally drips blood.

Again, not making this up.

PETA, this is a world where mushrooms change your bodily properties, a turtle from Hell has a vendetta against you, and fireballs can be shot through water. Even with such heinous offenses of physics and common logic, your imagination sucks.
