I am, I guess, sort of a sap when it comes to standards, and I know others will not share my excitement over a Paul covers/standards album... but, I must say, this first taste is not bad at all.

I've been listening to this for about a week and confess to being a little underwhelmed. I like Paul and I like standards, and I find this album to be very pretty, very tasteful, and well-played, but I guess I was hoping for a more personal take on these songs, something to suggest what it is that Paul loves about them, why they mean so much to him. It's all played very straight, though, and there's really nothing about any of the performances that grabs me. The original compositions stand out the most, only because they are the only songs that don't seem completely familiar.

It's the first track. And every time I see the title of this thread the song gets stuck in my head.

A line tossed off in the middle of a song is one thing. A song title, let alone an album title, that becomes a thread title, is something else.

I see the album title is being called "cheeky" in the media. That word has been rather debased of late.

Reviews of film and music could stand more ambivalence, IMHO, but having said that, I find David Hajdu's review of this CD a bit of a head-scratcher. The first commenter highlights the problem -- to the extent that it is, or might be, a problem.

Overall, I'd say the review is more positive than the headline. But, then, that's part of the problem, isn't it?
