Thanks for your work on this list, Jeremy. I'm very intrigued by the cast list for Woody Allen's next film. Sadly, IMDB lists 2013 as the tentative release year for Scorsese's Silence.

Saw these ones last year. Footnote was easily one of my favorite films at last year's VIFF. Alps, I'm afraid, was one of a few films that put me to sleep during the festival, though that probably says as much about festival fatigue in general as it does about the film in particular. Take This Waltz is okay but kind of goes off the rails in the last 10-15 minutes. And I really need to see Coriolanus again; it's full of good lines, but this is one of Shakespeare's lesser-known works, so the good lines in question aren't exactly famous (and thus don't stick in my memory so easily) like certain lines from Hamlet or Romeo or Julius Caesar might be.

Well, hopefully that means Scorsese is putting a large amount of love and care into it then. So, I took out Silence and added Upside Down and Effie.

Easily one of the best things about 2012 in film is we are supposed to be able to see 3 new Shakespeare adaptations. Usually we're lucky if we even get 1.

2012 has a good line-up. One not mentioned yet--technically a 2011 film?--that I'm hoping to see is Sokurov's FAUST.

Oh, and CARNAGE, since that hasn't made its way near me yet.

These films, on the other hand, had me riveted.

Oh, and A Separation was actually released in the United States in 2011. On December 30, true, and in only a handful of theatres (if that), true, but still, there it is (and was).

Not that it particularly matters, but Blue Like Jazz isn't a 2011 feature (unless you count a pre-final-cut showing, which you don't). I personally got a call from Steve Taylor a few weeks ago and I believe he said it's opening in March - definitely 2012.
