I need to make a list of contemporary films in which Jesus or Jesus imagery appears. 1980 is a random place to begin a sample, but it is a fair place to draw a line.
Traditional Jesus films should be included, but I am also interested in things like Ferrara's Mary film or even Van Sant's Kobain/Jesus film. Any film in which Jesus plays an overt or structural role. What do you think?

Regardless, one movie that DOES have Our Lord take flesh upon coming down from a crucifix is last year's NEDS.

The characteristics are a bit nebulous. They can either be proper Jesus films, or a film in which an image of or reference to Jesus (not just a cross or crucifix or related Christian symbol) is a significant component.

It's obvious, but there's always Scorsese's LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST.
And Will Ferrell shows up as Jesus in SUPERSTAR.
