This one young woman and three young men are utterly amazing. They have the soul of Otis Redding and Billie Holiday, the heart of the Allman Brothers, and the grit of garage rock. They are now getting serious national recognition-- streaming on NPR, cover of Paste, and more. I just wanna know one thing-- where were the bands like this one in Alabama when I lived there for twenty-six years??? Check out their full debut album here: http://www.npr.org/2...-boys-and-girls

I haven't yet found a thread on this incredible band here, so fittingly, I'm starting one!
As a native (and twenty-six year resident, until 2000) of the tiny town of Gadsden, Alabama, I could not be more proud of the Alabama Shakes, who hail from Athens, Alabama, about forty-five minutes away!

A co-worker of mine told me about this band just the other day. Thanks for the NPR link. A co-worker had mentioned it the other day, but I'd neglected to look it up. I'll give a listen.
