Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking trilogy (The Knife of Never Letting Go is the first book) is a dystopian YA series about humans struggling to survive on an earth-like planet. The twist: The planet creates a phenomenon called Noise, which makes the thoughts of every male creature audible to everyone else. Females can hear Noise but don't project any of their own, which causes some understandable tensions for the men.
When I was reading the books, I thought the soundscape of Noise could be a really interesting thing to present cinematically (kind of like The Noah), and now an adaptation looks like it's in the works. And it will be written by Charlie Kaufman. (Thanks to CrimsonLine for the link.)
