I'd appreciate prayers for my parents. My mom, who has an artificial hip, had the hip displace on her earlier this week. That was corrected through surgery and she went home earlier in the week, but my brother just called to say she's had a hematoma and is back in the hospital. My dad hadn't called anyone because he didn't want anyone to worry. (!!)

My mom is in her upper 60s, my dad in his low 70s, and this development likely means my mom will need to adjust to living on the main level of their home rather than walking up and down the stairs to/from the master bedroom. There's a room on the main level that they added several years ago in anticipation of such a reality, but the master bedroom on the main floor is set up as a home office. Now it'll need to be a bedroom, with the office presumably relocated (I'm not sure where). A hospital bed is being delivered to their home "temporarily," but we're thinking this may be longer term. Not sure. Still, if she's downstairs, I don't know if my dad moves into that room, too, or stays upstairs, and how that might affect him.

It's going to be an unsettled several days/weeks ahead. My brothers and I are probably going to have a family meeting to talk about how to care for my parents during this extended recovery, especially for my dad, who is used to having my mom do the cooking, cleaning and shopping (although they go out to eat frequently). All this coming during a week when I'm scheduled to be out Mon-Wed nights. So ... prayers appreciated as we make the necessary adjustments to ensure our parents have what they need. Thank you all.

I'll be praying, Christian.

May God take care of you and see you through these days of stress, and I pray for healing and peace for your family members.

Update: My mom is doing very well. It looked for a time like the hospital bed they'd rented for a month might be returned early and that she'd be able to return to sleeping in the upstairs bedroom. That didn't happen, but the physical therapist has been impressed with her recovery.

However, when my mom mentioned to her doctor the rigors the physical therapist had put her through, and how, although she'd done well, she was sore, the doctor replied, "WHAT physical therapist?"

"The one the you sent."

"I didn't send a physical therapist."

"Then he's the one the hospital sent."

[doctor grumbles, advises my mom to take it easy and rest, that the recovery is six weeks and we're only three weeks into it]

I hope the breakdown in communication between hospital and doctor didn't harm my mom. She does seem to be doing well, although the doctor's angry reaction to discovering a course of therapy he hadn't approved gives me pause.

Wow. That's... unsettling.

I'm sorry I missed your initial post, Christian. I'll start praying for your mom and your family in view of these latest developments.

Sounds like your family and my family have some things in common. ;)
