I have to agree with Jeffrey. I am more than excited about this. Actually, I anticipate it more than any record this year.

I'm cautiously optimistic. For me, The Sensual World and The Red Shoes were slight letdowns -- certainly not bad albums, but a little too safe and predictable following the inspired weirdness of The Dreaming and Hounds of Love. But those albums are now more than 20 years old.
It's been a long, long time since Kate Bush has released an album. She almost certainly paved the way for kindred spirits such as Tori Amos and Bjork, and I hope that she can reclaim some of her past glory. For a while there -- specifically, the mid-'80s -- she and Peter Gabriel were producing the most creative music that reached the mainstream. I hope she can find that spark again.

Yipee! Glad to hear a glowing report from you, Thom.
I think my biggest concern about this record is the production. Because let's face it-- Bush's 80s recordings are great, but they haven't aged especially well. I'll be pretty impressed if she adroitly adapts her sound to the 21st century.

The King of the Mountain video is now up on her site. I'm not blown away by this song but I'm still really looking forward to this album.

C'mon! Kate Bush has always been obsessed with ghosts, and Elvis is the king of ghosts--he's been seen everywhere. As for Rosebud, is there ma more ghostly presence in pop culture?

I never said, "I'm not blown away by this song because it's about ghosts and Elvis." I'm just not impressed with the song as a whole, but over time it may grow on me.
(Pardon my ignorance, but who is Rosebud?)

Rosebud--the name of the sled in Orson Welles' portrait of William Randolph Heart in his classc film Citizen Kane.

Got this today.
I can't comment on the album as a whole yet, having not listened to Disc 2, but as for the first disc... well gosh, it's as good as anything Bush has ever done. It's every bit as beautiful, as graceful, as strange, and as stubbornly idiosyncratic as Hounds of Love (but with much better, fuller production!)
And... the album packaging is exquisite.
Much, much more later, including some comments on the lyrics and on Disc 2 in general. For now, I'll just say that this is the happiest reunion I've had all year.
