Perhaps this belongs on Jeff's "You've Got to Be Kidding Me News" page...

I second that with a big "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!"

The thing is, I've seen the TV ads for this church -- when they come on, I know it's past my bedtime. Along with Vern Fonk Insurance, Flynn's Carpet Center, and various chat lines, All Nations Christian Center is a linchpin of terrible post-midnight TV advertising in Seattle. Judging from the ad, I would venture to say that there isn't one iota of exaggeration or distortion in Mr. Nelson's article.

Jeff, thanks for asking, the gig went fairly well, although in retrospect it probably wasn't a good idea to schedule it head to head with Bumbershoot. You're still welcome to buy my CD and hear what you missed. Who knows -- perhaps it will turn out to be the best CD you haven't heard.

"...the tightest party in town!" This is obviously an extreme, but the subtle invasion of this sort of thing is the biggest reason I can't be an evangelical anymore. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I guess I have an achaic notion of worship. You can't begin to know how uncomfortable I would be at that church service. I'd rather be personally called out as heathen and in need of healing in fundie or IPCW service than that.

Hm, well, if that's the biggest reason, then I'd venture to say that theologically, you are still an evangelical, you just have trouble finding evangelical churches that don't embarrass you.

Well, thank God they pass white cardboard buckets around ... if I were there I might be in dire need of just such a thing. I'd try to dump the money out of it first.

One of the biggest. I've shaken my fundie ways. I don't know if I'll truly shake some evangelical characteristics.

[Jack Benny pause]Hmmm.[/Jack Benny pause] Great laugh you gave me there.

Yeah, I got a good chuckle out of that one, too. Thanks
