In the thread I started on The Mission, Peter told me I could link to any thread where the film was mentioned. Problem is, I don't know how to put in a link. unsure.gif

Could someone tell me how, please?

To link to a thread, I go to the thread and copy the URL and stick it in as an http link using the handy button just above the box we type messages in.

To link to a specific post, note that each post has a little number in the corner (Post #2, for example). click on that, copy (CTRL C) the link that you see and use the http button.

Thanks, Darrel.

I'm going to practice on you to see if I have the hang of it.

Here is the thread I started http://artsandfaith....?showtopic=7248

and here is Peter's post in the thread http://artsandfaith....7253&qpid=91239

I have no idea if this will work. Hitting Ctrl C didn't work right, so I just copied and pasted.

Well that was a disaster. I got the thread link right, but could not get Peter's post #4 to work.

What do I do after I click on post #4 and do Ctrl C? It says it goes into my clipboard. It turns blue in the space, but I can't get it moved to my post to you.

What a mess. I hate not getting things to work.

That second link opens the post up for editing (for me, since I have that level of access)!

Instead, to get the correct URL for a specific post, you need to click on the little # in the upper-right corner of a post.

For example, clicking on the "#4" in the corner of your post above yields a dialog box with

http://ArtsAndFaith....indpost&p=91265

in it...

It didn't work at all.

What didn't work? What happens when you click on the hyperlinked "#4" (or any of the other post links)?

I get a box at the top on the left that talks about "script prompt" and the url is blue and it says manually copy it to clipboard.

I can't copy and paste it like I did with the thread.

Darrel said to use CTRL C - but then nothing happens.

Nothing should happen when you click CTRL+C; it copies it. Use CTRL+X if you want to "see" something (via a cut).

Later use CTRL+V to insert the text into your post...

Alan, thank you for your patience and for helping me. I will now try to put a link here for Peter's post in the Mission thread.

http://ArtsAndFaith....indpost&p=91145

Did that do it?

Now if you are ready to go to the next step, you can put in a text that will serve as the link to the URL. For example: this us your last post. (I typed in "this is your last post." in the second box that comes up with the http button.

Something that helps me learn this stuff is to sometimes look at a post with something I don't know how to do (you can see the markup by hitting reply) and looking to see what tags are used.

Darrel, I am not ready to go to the next step today.

Will try that later. smile.gif

Please Alan, don't delete this thread as I may need to refer back to it when I try to do a link again.

Thanks to both of you for helping me.

Thanks, Alan.

Just a thought. When the new goodies come to this website, maybe there could be a separate sectiun called "How To..." (Things that are not included in the "help" section.)

Sara, you might also note the "testing" thread pinned at the top of "About This Website". It is there for trying things out.

Thanks, Darrel.

I didn't know it was there! I could have posted my question yesterday there.
