Top 100 2011: Results and Discussion

Hm. Let me see about that SDG.

I checked and there are 11 movies left out due to being 4+ for their director:

Sacrifice , The (Offret-Sacrificatio)

Cries and Whispers (1973)

Through a Glass Darkly ("Såsom i en spegel") (1961)

Virgin Spring , The (Jungfrukallan)

Fanny and Alexander ("Fanny och Alexander") (1982)

Lorna's Silence ("Le silence de Lorna") (2008)

Red Beard (1965)

Rosetta (1999)

Derzu Uzala (1975)

Solaris ("Solyaris") (1972)

and one additional Dreyer (cannot remember which one right now)

and two due to length (By Brakhage & The House is Black). That makes 13. That would still give us a difference of 2, and I don't have time right now to check where that difference comes from...Maybe there were others that got disqualified for some reason that I can't think of right now.Or maybe I just missed 2 that were ranked 151+ in 2011.

Edit: Figured one out: A Serious Man, disqualified for being too recent. Is there a second movie disqualified for that reason?! I can't think of one.

That would still give us a difference of 4, and I don't have time right now to check where that difference comes from...

Hence my plea for a "final, absolutely correct list." :)

Films in 2011 but not in 2010:

Prins, your data isn't quite right. The 2011 list you're working from wasn't quite finalized; Iron Giant s/b 99 and Weeping Camel 100. Some other film higher up on the list was disqualified for being a 4th film from the director.

It is correct--just not complete.

I updated my post above, there is only a discrepancy of 1 now. I'm honestly sorry I haven't got the time to make this data as complete as you'd like.

You know what they say about beggars. :) Thanks, I appreciate your efforts.

And thank you Prins! That's great, 35. That's what I needed to know.

Improvers (better each list):

Andrei Rublev (18 to 10 to 8 to 2)

Three Colors Trilog (28 to 17 to 15 to 14)

Tokyo Story (64 to 57 to 21 to 19)

I'm surprised it's only three.

Disprovers (worse each list):

Breaking the Waves (50 to 59 to 99 to off)

Day of Wrath (24 to 29 to 42 to 45)

Diary of a Country Priest (4 to 5 to 11 to 23)

Rosetta would also be on the list (1 to 33 to 82 to off) except that it wasn't on the first, unranked list.

Hey Dale, since you asked ....

I'm guessing this ranking is by the 2011 list? Can we see these 34 films as ranked by the sum of their placements? :)

Cheers,
