It's more about our list having the "wrong" films by major directors. I can think of a dozen Ford films I'd put ahead of The Searchers and How Green Was My Valley (though I'll give both films high scores if they're on the list). Same with Bresson. I'll probably nominate Pickpocket. I don't know what to do with Vertigo, which is clearly one of the greatest films of all time -- maybe the greatest film of all time -- but I'm not sure it's played any role in the development of my contemplative life. Same with Sunrise.
