Exclusive: Frank Grillo Circling The Lead In 'SKYLINE' Sequel

During this year's Cannes Film Festival it was annoucned that there will be a sequel to 2010's low-budget sci-fi alien invasion tale "Skyline," which is called "Beyond Skyline".  Liam O'Donnell, the writer and producer of the first film is set to direct the sequel.

In the sci-fi thriller "Skyline," strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the earth.
Over the weekend my source told me that Frank Grillio (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Purge: Anarchy) is the lead in the "Skyline" sequel, and that it would be some sort of reboot, supposedly the sequel's storyline takes place at the same time the first one did. The first Skyline had something of a twist ending that suggested where a sequel might go with those characters, but a simultaneous timeframe between the original and it's sequel means we probably won't pick up on the ongoing adventures of Jarrod's new body. . . .

Frank Grillo to Star in ‘Beyond Skyline’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Frank Grillo will star in “Beyond Skyline,” a spin-off to 2010’s alien invasion adventure, “Skyline.”

The signing comes on the heels of Grillo’s role in the DirecTV mixed martial arts series “Kingdom,” as well as roles in box office hits “The Purge: Anarchy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” “Kingdom” has been picked up for 20 additional episodes.

The film is currently in pre-production in Indonesia and Singapore and will begin shooting in December.

Screenwriter Liam O’Donnell, who also penned the script for “Beyond Skyline” and co-wrote its predecessor, will make his directorial debut with the film. Greg and Colin Strause, who directed the first film, will produce along with Matthew Chausse.

Hydraulx Entertainment and Infinite Studios are backing the film, and Hydraulx will oversee the visual effects work. “Skyline” made $66.8 million on a $10 million budget. “Beyond Skyline” is not a sequel — it’s being developed as a standalone film.

Grillo will play a detective who fights to free his son from a terrifying alien warship. . . .

The first film was nonsensical and incomprehensible. I'm not sure where there is to go from that.

In case you were wondering, my name is spelled "Denes House," but it's pronounced "Throatwobbler Mangrove."

Maybe one of the aliens could ride a dinosaur.
