Greg Wolfe
Let's come up with a list of the Top 20 Horror films. I'm delighted to say that Scott Derrickson, director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose, has agreed to write a blog post / introduction / summation to go along with this list. Same procedures, same rules as the Top 100 nominations. Begin! IMAGE | SPU MFA in Creative Writing | GregoryWolfe.com

yank_eh
Is this the place to discuss how we are defining "Horror"? (I know there has been some discussion elsewhere about Thriller/Horror; will that discussion continue here or can we link to it?) A related question: can a documentary be considered a horror film? Persona
Second Night of the Living Dead, Vampyr and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Is this the place to discuss how we are defining "Horror"? (I know there has been some discussion elsewhere about Thriller/Horror; will that discussion continue here or can we link to it?) If films like Vertigo are going to get seconded, I guess it's all going to have to come down to the vote. I will only give Vertigo a ONE on a horror vote. I would give it a FIVE on a classic vote. A related question: can a documentary be considered a horror film? Are you thinking of something like Cropsey or something like The Last Exorcism? Persona
I would say just nominate it and see if it gets seconded. I haven't seen Crumb. Maybe I should. I will second The Thing, having recently watched and written about it. So who is going to make the effort to nominate Psycho and The Exorcist? Might as well just get it over with... Nick Alexander
My Hitchcock horror nomination is The Birds. I second/third Night of the Living Dead, Let the Right One In, The Orphanage and The Thing (1982). I nominate Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, [REC], Scream, The Mist, Freaks, Eyes Without A Face, Diabolique (?), Alien (?), and... for my one exploitive horror, I really feel it right to nominate... Re-Animator. And, for the pure chutzpah, I nominate Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Eta: I just saw Black Christmas (1974) for the first time last night. Not ready to nominate it yet... With Derrickson being so intimately involved with this, isn't this a Ted Baehr-ish thing to do? Wouldn't his very participation automatically rule this out? I'd rather see Carnival of Souls nominated. And Cronenberg's Scanners, if only for the first five minutes.
