Top 25: Nominations for Spiritually Significant Films on Growing Older

Recommended Posts

I'm (mostly) copying instructions from previous years, though I have made a few changes, beginning with the reinclusion of "Spiritually Significant" in the title. I am not aware if there were ever two rounds of voting (Top 50 reduced to Top 25), but I will suggest, given our current numbers to follow the Ecumenical Jury Practice: One round to select the Top 25 and a second to rank the finalists.

So here is our Top 25 Films on Growing Older thread.  For now, follow the same rules and nomination format from prior years.  I'm open to rule changes in the discussion thread.

This thread is for nominations and seconds ONLY; discussion and advocacy for your nominations should be posted in this separate thread. I would strongly encourage each of you not to just nominate films without any explanation for why you think they belong on the list. Part of the nominating process should include nominating the film and then going over to the discussion thread to explain why the film merits your nomination and our votes. Please do this.

Nominations will be open until a date yet to be announced. (I propose April 1, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST). The rules are as follows:

1) Nominations must follow this format:

Title:
Director:
Year:
Language:
IMDB Link:
YouTube Link (a clip of/trailer for the film):
Link to the A&F thread on the film (if there is one):

2) Every nomination must be seconded before appearing on the ballot. To second, simply reply to the nomination post with “Second.”

3) Any A&F member can nominate up to 25 films.

4) There is no limit on nominating films from the same director; however, only the top three vote-getters per director will be allowed on the final list.

5) I did away with the five year-old rule. I see no reason someone couldn't nominate a more recent film. This group does not seem in any danger to me of falling for the cult of the new.

6) I do not want TV series. Period. But if others do, I am willing to be flexible. Conversely, I am open to shorts or short films. This is pretty much the opposite of the Top 100 (when I voted for it). I doubt too many shorts would make the list, but I think they should be eligible.

7) The delineation between a television work and a film is fluid and we can discuss on a case-by-case basis.

8) Trilogies and series of films shall be considered as separate films.

I offered awhile back to maintain a running list of all the nominees and seconded films. Ken, if you'd like I'm still happy to do that.

Sure thing. If you start one, post it here and I will edit the thread so that it is the second message in the thread.
