The short list (with the ones I have seen in bold):

  • Advocate
  • American Factory
  • The Apollo
  • Apollo 11
  • Aquarela
  • The Biggest Little Farm
  • The Cave
  • The Edge of Democracy
  • For Sama
  • The Great Hack
  • Honeyland
  • Knock Down the House
  • Maiden
  • Midnight Family
  • One Child Nation

So... all seven of the Producers Guild's nominees are on this list. American Factory and Apollo 11 are the only ACE Eddies nominees that made this list, and Apollo 11 is the only Cinema Audio Society nominee that made this list. Honeyland is the only American Society of Cinematographers nominee that made this list.

December 30 update: Edited to bold titles I have seen since creating this post.

The Writers Guild nominees in this category:

  • Citizen K, Written by Alex Gibney; Greenwich Entertainment
  • Foster, Written by Mark Jonathan Harris; HBO Documentary Films
  • The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, Written by Alex Gibney; HBO Documentary Films
  • Joseph Pulitzer: Voice of the People, Written by Robert Seidman & Oren Rudavsky; First Run Features
  • The Kingmaker, Written by Lauren Greenfield; Showtime Documentary Films

So, no overlap *whatsoever* with the Academy's ten-movie shortlist. (Note, incidentally, that the guild has stricter eligibility requirements than the Oscars and other groups do -- I think they only accept scripts that are written by guild members...?)

The winner will be announced February 1.

Vote!

Also, note: the Oscar nominees with the most guild recognition are American Factory (PGA, ACE, DGA), The Cave (PGA, DGA, MPSE) and Honeyland (PGA, DGA, ASC), with three guild nominations apiece. For Sama has also been nominated by the PGA. The Edge of Democracy was not nominated by any of the guilds mentioned in this thread.
