kenmorefield
I went in with moderate expectations because the set up seemed stilted to me, and I feared there would just be a collection of position=paer speeches. But I was surprised how much this movie stayed with me. The performances are quite good, I think, and post-election, I appreciated the introspective quality of the characters even more. I said in my review, I think it finds the sweet spot between deconstruction and regurgitation. http://1morefilmblog.com/2020/11/10/one-night-in-miami-king-2020/ Quote 1More Film Blog Faith and Spirituality in Masters of World Cinema Faith and Spirituality in Masters of World Cinema, Volume II
Andrew
Nice review - I appreciated your commentary on double-consciousness that runs through the film. I watched this as part of my subscription to the Chicago online film fest, and found it to be a mostly satisfying film, even if it still felt like a stage play with some filmic elements thrown in. I hope both Odom and Ben-Adir get Oscar noms - both actors gave their characters layers of complexity - perhaps even more challenging for Ben-Adir, following as he is in Denzel's footsteps.
