EXCLUSIVE: Four Actors Board Madeleine L'Engle Adaptation
Adelaide Clemens, Gregg Sulkin, Cary Elwes, Samantha Mathis are set to star in 'Camilla Dickenson,' which centers on a young woman whose parents' marriage begin to fall apart.
Adelaide Clemens and Wizards of Waverly Place actor Gregg Sulkin are starring in Camilla Dickenson, an adaptation of the 1951 book by award-winning young-adult author Madeleine L’Engle.
Cary Elwes and Samantha Mathis also star in the drama, being directed by casting director-turned-helmer Cornelia Moore.
Clemens is playing the title character, whose parents’ marriage begins to fall apart. As each vie for their daughter’s allegiance, the young woman turns to a boy with a rebellious streak (Sulkin) who also comes from a broken home.
Elwes and Mathis are playing Clemens’ parents. . . .

Apparently L'Engle wrote a sequel to this book (called A Live Coal in the Sea) 45 years later, in which Camilla is now an old woman who tells her life story to her granddaughter. I wonder if any of these actors will be called upon to reprise their roles in 2055?

Heh. Good question.

This isn't one of my favorite L'Engle stories, but it should be interesting to see what they do with it.

I've seen it. It's co-written and directed by Madeleine's god-daughter, and she really seems to understand Madeleine.

My story about the making of Camilla Dickinson is up at CT, including my interview with the director, producer, and the Dread Pirate Roberts.
