The Thing (1982), John Carpenter

John Carpenter’s gruesome adaptation of John W. Campbell’s novella Who Goes There? concerns an Antarctic research station invaded by an alien organism, which could possibly replicate all life on earth in three years. Before attempting to destroy the creature, the ten-man research team must first confront their growing paranoia that one or more of them may already have been assimilated. Making the film intensely claustrophobic, Rob Bottin and Stan Winston’s special effects were among some of the most stunning and graphic of the time, and still hold up in the age of CGI.
